shiying and will
Will had e-mailed me earlier this year inquiring about my availability to shoot his wedding in Singapore in June. I was already booked for the date, but a few weeks later he wrote again, asking if I was available for a different weekend. I was, and so began a memorable experience that took my wife and I almost 10,000 miles from Washington DC to photograph a beautiful wedding in Singapore. We first made a stop in Indonesia and spent a fun two days exploring Padang and the surrounding area and taking in the scenery and ornate architecture of the traditional house.
Singapore is a remarkable city and country in one and both Will and Shiying had grown up there, but met in the US at Duke University. Friends and family came from all over the world for their wedding weekend which included a piano recital by Will and his brother and a ceremony in a church built in 1835.
On the wedding day, Will and his groomsmen participated in some traditional Chinese wedding door games. The door games have a long history in Chinese culture, where the bride's family and friends do not want to marry her away. As part of the tradition, Will was blocked at Shiying's door, and her friends came up with some creative challenges which included having to draw a picture of her and kissing an orange the way he would kiss her!
As you can tell the photos, Will was eventually successful and they had a beautiful wedding. After the ceremony, we walked around the waterfront for some formal photos before heading to the durian-shaped Esplanade.
